Hunter Blackwell is a REALTOR® and native Oregonian based in Ashland, OR, with a deep-rooted passion for real estate shaped by a lifetime immersed in the housing industry. The son of a general contractor and the grandson of real estate agents on both sides of the family, Hunter was introduced to housing development early on while working for his father’s construction company.

An entrepreneur at heart, Hunter has owned and operated several sales-related businesses. His passion for sales, coupled with extensive experience in housing and land-use, ultimately led him to investment real estate. Drawing from his family’s history in buy-and-hold income properties, Hunter naturally transitioned into becoming a licensed real estate broker in the Rogue Valley.

Hunter serves clients throughout Southern Oregon, including Jackson and Josephine counties. I grew up in Torrington, Connecticut, where I was always drawn to learning new things and challenging myself in different ways. That curiosity eventually led me to Arlington, Virginia, where I earned a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from Marymount University. While there, I enjoyed exploring Washington, D.C., and taking in the energy of the city.

After college, I worked as a paralegal in both New York City and later in New Haven, Connecticut, but after a few years, I felt the call to head west. Before making the move, my wife and I walked the Camino de Santiago in Spain—a powerful experience that fed my love of reflection and connecting with people from all walks of life.

After our journey, we settled in Ashland, Oregon, where I took a position as an accountant at Southern Oregon University. In my spare time, I started studying for my real estate license. I saw it as the perfect way to combine my analytical background with my desire to work closely with others. In 2019, I transitioned into real estate full-time and haven’t looked back.

I follow the real estate market closely and rely on numbers, trends, and local knowledge to help my clients make informed decisions—whether they’re buying and/or selling a home or investing in a property. I’ve been involved in hundreds of real estate transactions and also invest in real estate myself, which gives me a practical perspective I enjoy sharing with clients.

Outside of work, I’m always looking to grow and learn. I love traveling and spending time on the trails with my wife, our daughter, and our two golden retrievers, Willow and Shasta. I’m also a dedicated runner, hiker, weight training and nutrition enthusiast—and a lifelong bowler (with a perfect game to my name). Recently, I’ve even started learning French, just to keep things interesting.

Known for his warm, approachable demeanor and clear communication style, he strives to make the buying and selling process feel informed, collaborative, and stress-free. Many of his clients feel his ability to translate complex market data into practical insights help them make confident decisions at every stage of their real estate journey.  

Before entering real estate, Dean built a diverse and accomplished career, including: operations and management positions, director level positions, and small business consulting. He also spent many years working in non-profit organizations, which showcases his service-oriented mindset and embodies his commitment to community. Coming from a diverse cultural background, he brings a broad perspective, cultural awareness, and deep respect for different lived experiences—allowing him to connect authentically with people from all walks of life and advocate thoughtfully on their behalf.

Dean lives in Ashland, Oregon, where he is deeply connected to both the community and the lifestyle Southern Oregon offers. As a proud father, he believes a home is far more than a transaction—it’s the foundation for family, stability, and long-term wellbeing. Outside of work, Dean loves cooking (and eating), reading, traveling, and taking full advantage of the region’s abundant outdoor opportunities, from splitboarding and whitewater to paddleboarding and hiking.
